What is this blog about?

We’ve set up this blog so that people who are new to Ryedale, people who come from another country or from a different culture, and people who have lived in Ryedale all their lives, can talk to each other about their experiences of living, working and spending leisure time here.  That way we can all increase our understanding of each other.

I’m Christine Bailey and I’m based at Ryedale Voluntary Action (RVA).  I’m running this blog, which means I’ll be posting to the blog and moderating any comments that people send in.

For those of you who haven’t contributed to a blog before and would like to have a go, it’s very easy!

A ‘post’ is what we’re calling a new topic that I have written about.

If you want to comment on a post, click ‘Leave a Comment’ and write your comment in the box.  You can write in your own language or in English.  If you write in your own langauge I will use Google Translate to translate what you have said.  If I reply it will be in English and you can use Google Translate to translate it back into your language.

All comments will go live on the site after I’ve moderated or authorised them.  I’ll be checking that the content isn’t hostile or offensive to anyone, or to any group of people or any organisation.  This is really important, due to the sensitive nature of the subject.  I’m keen that people can express a range of views here, so what people write in their comments does not necessarily reflect the views of the BME Project or of Ryedale Voluntary Action.

I hope that you enjoy reading and taking part in our blog!  I’m really keen to know what you think about the blog and about the rest of this site, so please write a comment to share your views about how we can make it better!

What is the BME Project?

Would you like to meet local people?
Would you like to find out where you can study or work?
Do you need information in your own language?
Do you know where to find help when you have a difficulty?
Would you like to share your opinions with the people who make the decisions in Ryedale?

The BME Project can help you to do all these things!

The BME Project exists to help people from other countries and different cultures to take a full part in life in Ryedale, by providing support, information, and opportunities to meet other people.  We want you to feel at home here!

How can I get in touch with the BME Project?

We’d love to know what you think about this website.  Do leave a reply below to share your views on the site and how we can improve it.  Tell us if you find any information on the site that is wrong or out of date.

If you would like to sign up to our low volume mailing list to receive updates on events and latest news, click here to send an email with ‘Subscribe’ in the subject line.  We look forward to hearing from you!

How can I get involved with the Project?

You could help to publicise the project and this blog, organise an event for people in your community, offer your services as a volunteer interpreter/translator, or come to meetings of the ‘Ryedale Together’ group, which oversees the project.  Ryedale Together meets about 5 or 6 times a year to discuss the project and make plans for future activites, and it would be great to see you there!

Click here to email the BME Engagement Officer or phone on 01653 600120.  We will get back to you as soon as possible.
